The Challenge

Many Australian children struggle to hear speech clearly.

The most common cause is fluctuating hearing loss linked to middle-ear infections (otitis media). These conditions are often severe, vary over time, and can be difficult to address through scheduled healthcare visits, particularly in regional and remote communities.

Even with good access to health care, wait times can leave children without support during critical years of learning and development.

Around 4 million children children are enrolled in Australian primary and secondary education.

Approximately 10–15% may experience functional listening difficulty.*

Australian children are estimated to be left without adequate support during critical learning years.

The Solution: OpenLearn

OpenLearn (small) is a personal sound amplifier designed to support children who may find it difficult to hear clearly in classroom environments.

Built on ShokzHear open ear audio technology and tuned by Audeara, OpenLearn helps amplify the voices and sounds around a child while allowing them to remain connected to their environment.

A child can simply put on their OpenLearn device and listen more clearly to their teacher, classmates and the world around them.

Designed for Children

Built for real classroom environments.

OpenLearn has been adapted specifically for Australian children with:

✅ Child friendly voice prompts

✅ A smaller size designed for children

✅ Simplified controls

✅ Safe listening limits

✅ Acoustic tuning designed for children who may have some difficulty hearing in classroom environments.
